Jeffrey Lidz is Distinguished Scholar-Teacher and Professor of Lingiustics at the University of Maryland. Lidz’s research explores language acquisition from the perspective of comparative syntax and semantics, focusing on the relative contributions of experience, extralinguistic cognition and domain-specific knowledge in learners’ discovery of linguistic structure and linguistic meaning.

Language acquisition involves the complex interplay between the the linguistic environment, the learner’s current knowledge and the information processing systems through which linguistic input is processed. Here we explore this interplay in the earliest stages of syntactic development.
