Sound Structure and Deep Learning: a Hope for Endangered Language Documentation
03.03.2021, 5:00 PM (UTC)03.03.2021, 2:00 PM (Local*)
This talk focuses on a central problem in human culture: the fast disappearance of the majority of the world’s languages. And when languages die, the cultures, social structures, and unique windows on the human mind, die as well. A world-wide project that documents, revitalizes, and reclaims endangered languages will be presented. Languages such as Tagle, a Nubian Language, and Ladin, a Romance Language are the object of our linguistic and computational analysis. We aim to attract an audience interested in endangered languages as well as to attract linguists to the use of machine learning.
