Phonetics, Prosody and Pathologies
This roundtable will discuss how different pathologies influence the production and the processing of prosody and phonetics/phonology. It will be given a special attention to different techniques of collecting and analyzing linguistic data.
Marc Pell will present a critical review about how Parkinson’s Disease affects the ability to express and interpret meanings by speech prosody. The author aims to foster new thinking on how PD is associated with pragmatic language deficits which involve the use of prosodic information.
Barbara Gili-Fivela will discuss the contribution of phonetics and phonology to the analysis of motor speech disorders, with specific attention to the hypokinetic dysarthria developed by Parkinson’s Disease patients.
Waldemar Ferreira Netto and Marcus Martins will present an ongoing research wich aims to develop an automatic analysis of intonation of patients with Schizophrenia, based in a distinction between structural functions of intonation (as boundaries and phrasing) and expressive functions (as emotions).
